Joco Legal is a full-service law firm based in Overland Park, Kansas, serving the Greater Kansas City metropolitan area in both Kansas and Missouri. We concentrate our practice in probate and probate litigation, estate planning, and personal injury — and we're licensed to appear in state and federal courts in both states.
Our Story
Joco Legal traces back to 1999, when Mike Jones founded The Jones Law Firm after six years at a boutique litigation practice. Brant McCoy joined as an associate attorney from 2007–2010, then built his own practice, The McCoy Law Firm, LLC, focused on guardianship, family law, business, and criminal defense. Mike and Brant stayed close over the years, frequently working guardianship cases together, and in 2015 they rejoined forces as Jones & McCoy, P.A., opening the Corporate Woods office we still work from today.
In 2021, Jason Covington left the Johnson County District Attorney's Office — where he'd spent 15 years as an Assistant District Attorney, including serving as Division Chief and Section Chief of the Special Victims Unit, litigating thousands of cases and serving as first chair in more than 40 jury trials — to join Mike and Brant. That merger formed Joco Legal.
Meet the Attorneys
Brant A. McCoy, Attorney — Brant received his undergraduate degree from Truman State University and his Juris Doctor from the University of Missouri–Kansas City School of Law, and is admitted to practice in both Missouri and Kansas. He concentrates his practice in personal injury, probate and trust litigation, probate administration, and estate planning. Brant also serves as an ethics investigator for the Johnson County Ethics and Grievance Committee and as Secretary of the Probate Section of the Johnson County Bar Association, and has been selected to both Super Lawyers and The National Trial Lawyers Top 100.
Jason R. Covington, Attorney — Jason brings more than 20 years of legal experience, including 15 years as a Johnson County Assistant District Attorney, where he served as Division Chief and Section Chief of the Special Victims Unit and handled serious felony matters ranging from homicides to crimes against children. He now focuses his practice on personal injury, estate planning, and probate matters across Kansas and Missouri.
Michael S. Jones, Of Counsel — Mike founded the firm's predecessor practice in 1999 and remains Of Counsel to Joco Legal today.
