Jason R. Covington

I served as a Division Chief and the Section Chief of the Special Victims Unit (SVU) for the Johnson County District Attorney’s Office.  Over my fifteen years with the office I litigated thousands of cases on behalf of the State of Kansas and tried over forty jury trials as an Assistant District Attorney.  These cases included homicides, violent crimes, sex crimes, and crimes against children.  This work involved extensive jury trial, bench trial, motion work, media appearances, and high-level negotiations.

As Section Chief, I managed and mentored the other attorneys in the office.  I led policy and legal directives for over twenty agencies in Johnson County with a focus on the Special Victims Unit driving consistent competence throughout the County. As a senior manager in the office, I regularly spearheaded technological and operational transformations in order to create global efficiencies and drive positive outcomes for the organization

In this position I was honored to serve as:

  • Instructor, Johnson County Police Academy
    • Arrest and Detention
    • Use of Deadly Force
  • Instructor, Sunflower House MDT Trainings
  • Instructor, Johnson County SANE SART Law Enforcement Trainings
  • Instructor, Metro Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners Certification Trainings
  • Instructor, CAPS High School Program, Sex Crimes
  • Kansas Judicial Council Subcommittee on Sex Offenses
  • KCDAA Best Practices Committee
    • Chair of Child Sex Subcommittee
  • Sunflower House Case Review, Chair
  • Johnson County SANE SART, Chair
  • Johnson County Human Trafficking Meetings, Chair
  • Investigator, Kansas Bar Association Disciplinary Administrator

I look forward to using my experience seeking justice for victims of crime to help our clients with their legal needs.
